  • L'Art de la Guerre Rulebook (4th Ed)

    L’Art de la Guerre allows you to play battles between all of the armies from early antiquity to the late Middle Ages quickly and easily. You can play with miniatures of any scale from 6 mm to 28 mm. The basing system is compatible with the majority of existing rulesets.

    This fully revised new edition contains all you need to quickly get started playing the game. Players can easily build armies drawn from any of the 300 army lists included here. Everything is in this one book, there is no need to purchase additional supplements.

    L'Art de la Guerre's flexible system allows players to play standard sized games in just a couple of hours using relatively few figures, as well as much larger games with a multitude of miniatures on a large table, taking a whole evening to play.

    There is a dedicated website supporting l’Art de la Guerre. There you'll find playing aids, game advice, an international ranking and tournament system and an active global forum where players can share their passion.

    This is the English language version.

    The L6/40 was designed as an infantry-support tank, so is well armoured for such a tiny vehicle, giving it a distinct advantage over the lighter Allied armoured cars. While its 20mm gun is an effective weapon, having the commander act as gunner and loader limits how well it can be used.

  • Lady Olynder

    She is the Mourning Bride, the Unrequited Queen, the Veiled Lady and the Mortarch of Grief. She is despair made manifest, gloom given form. She is Lady Olynder, and in her are bound all the sorrows and anguishes of the realms. Her power transcends the melancholic, for she exudes mind-crippling waves of pure desolation. Mortals in her presence are overwhelmed by a gloom so heavy that only the strongest willed can stay upright. Most fall to their knees, mentally battered by their own utter hopelessness. It is a sorrow potent enough to cause a mother to forsake her child, a warrior to lay down his sword and accept the inevitable, to stop a beating heart.

    This multi-part plastic kit contains the components necessary to assemble Lady Olynder, Mortarch of Grief. As the Mortarch of Grief, she is surrounded by an aura of absolute misery – this miniature does an impressive job of capturing the bleakness. Hovering above the ground in her ghastly bridal dress and veil, little can actually be seen of her form other than the outline of a skull. Her bridal train, ruined and shredded, flows out behind her, with a wisp of this ethereal garment attaching the miniature to its base. Thorny vines of grave-roses, which sprout wherever she floats, wrap themselves around her waist and up to her headdress, which itself resembles a thorned briar. In her right hand she wields the Staff of Midnight, an ornate stave topped with a polished gemstone of vitrified grave-sand. She is accompanied by 2 macabre Banshee Handmaidens, horrifying skull-faced spectres. Each carries a gift – an ensorcelled grave-sand hourglass given by Nagash himself which can be smashed asunder with lethal effect, and a sealed casket, the contents of which are a mystery; hardly likely to be anything at all positive...

    This model comes as 23 components, and is supplied with a Citadel 60mm Round base.

  • Lake-town House

    Situated on the shores of the Long Lake, Lake-town is a place of wooden jetties and houses standing upon wooden pillars. It is a place of busy trade, with packed fish markets making up the bulk of its narrow streets. Creaking wooden jetties jab out into the Long Lake itself – these wooden structures were infamously swamped in flame by the great Smaug the Terrible, who met his final fate here at the hands of Bard the Bowman.

    This detailed scenery piece allows you to build a Lake-town house. The Lake-town House features a great deal of modularity, meaning multiple kits can be easily converted to create your own Lake-town settlement. The house itself features reversible gable ends, and the kit includes a ton of extras:

    - 1 rowing boat with separate oars;
    - 2 barrels;
    - 2 fish baskets;
    - 1 glass float;
    - 3 lanterns;
    - 1 hanging sign board;
    - 1 outhouse, including seat and door;
    - 1 loading hook;
    - 3 long walkways and 1 short walkway.

  • Land of the Free: Wargames Rules for North America 1754-1815

    This set of wargaming rules, published by Osprey, allows players to start with small warbands of 10-20 miniatures of any scale and develop their forces over time, building them up into armies of hundreds of models! No matter the size of a player's collection, these rules will provide an enjoyable game.

    England and France set upon the New World with a fury, building settlements whenever they could hack a clearing out of the wilderness. Expansion brought them into contact with the natives, with whom they established trade and commerce. The New World was vast but not nearly big enough for the ambitions of these powers and conflict was inevitable. In Europe they call it the Seven Years' War, but in the New World the French and Indian War was fought for dominance over this new land.

    Nine long years of bloodshed saw England triumphant, but the war had placed great burdens upon colonist and King alike. Tariffs were created to pay for the war but the newly formed colonies quickly realized they were being treated unfairly. "No taxation without representation" became the rallying cry and a cultural revolution ignited into full rebellion. The American Revolution birthed a new nation that faced trials from the very beginning, not least a new conflict against England - the War of 1812. After nearly three years of warfare, the young nation stood strong and started down the road to becoming a new world power.

    Each player will build their forces using a unique system of command points. Throughout the game these command points will be used to perform actions, resolve morale tests, and reduce the enemy's will to fight. Resource management is determining what command points will be used for which elements and which actions. Risk management is evaluating whether you should extend your command point resources at the danger or exhausting your army and making them susceptible to counter-attack. Victory is determined by who holds the field of battle and which objectives were achieved.

    Hardcover: 148 pages

  • Landsknecht Ogres

    PUNISHERS OF THE BATTLEFIELD…

    Once united under the banner of the Great Tharl, the Ogre tribes and city states were sworn enemies of the Mannish kingdoms. Under the High Queen’s Peace though, some nations have begun to trade and even allied with the Free Kingdoms. Ogre mercenaries have adopted some of the more flamboyant customs and dress of their human employers and are formidable foes on the battlefield.

    This box set lets you build either 9 Landsknecht Ogres or 9 of The Vain for Death Fields. Weapons include halberds, spears, cannon, knives, clubs, great swords, pistols, auto-guns, shotguns, and grenades. A huge variety of heads, floppy hats, feathers, and more will allow you to customize to your heart’s content! This set was created as a result of a contest on our site.

    This box can also build The Vain, a group of abducted Landsknecht who after some time on the circuit succumbed to flattery and allowed themselves to be genetically modified to be bigger and stronger. Their alien owner of course didn’t explain that they would also become grotesque. They now operate as guns for hire and are lent out to the highest bidders as a supplement to regular teams on the Death Fields circuit.

    • Command sprue with options for officers, standard bearers, drummers, etc.
    • Plastic bases.
    • Background guide with 5 full-colour flags.

    Landsknechts were instigated by the Holy Roman Emperor, Maximillian I, as a reaction to the Swiss Mercenary Pikemen that had dominated battlefields for decades before the Italian Wars (1494-1559). Over the course of the Italian Wars, however, the Landsknecht tactics adapted far more than the Swiss and the use of firearms in conjunction with the pike would give them the edge, at least tactically. Maximillian was keen to give the men freedom to wear what they wanted, and this resulted in plumes, slashed sleeves and bright colours.

    The figures in this Warlord Games box set can be used to represent the Landsknechts raised in Germany or the Tyrol as well as early Swiss pike regiments.

  • Last Argument of Kings - Black Powder Supplement

    At the beginning of the 18th century, warfare entered a new era. The widespread use of the flintlock musket had transformed the way armies trained and fought. This period was a golden age for the crowned heads of Europe. They commanded professional troops, gloriously outfitted in splendid uniforms, and fought each other over land, wealth and the succession to their thrones. Some even led their armies on the field of battle. Yet by the end of the century, the real power of kings was gone or greatly eroded – parliaments would decide the foreign policy of nations, democracy had taken hold in the New World and the divine right of kings was everywhere being questioned. These were the last wars fought to protect the succession rights of royalty. These wars were the Last Argument of Kings.

    This supplement for the Black Powder game overviews the main conflicts and armies of this period, and includes army lists and special rules to enable you to refight these wars using the Black Powder rules, as well as scenarios for the most dramatic battles of the time.

    Featured conflicts include:
    • The War of the Spanish Succession - The Battle of Blenheim (1704)
    • The Great Northern War – the Battle of Holowczyn (1708)
    • The Austro-Turkish Wars – the Battle of Petrovardin (1716)
    • The War of the Austrian Succession – the Battle of Fontenoy (1745)
    • The Wars of the English Succession – the 1745 Rebellion
    • The Seven Years’ War – the Battle of Hundorf (1762)
    • War in the Colonies – The French Indian War & The War in India
    • Raids and Invasions – Amphibious Warfare in the 18th Century

    This is a full colour 112 page softback book.  Please note, you need a copy of Black Powder to be able to use this supplement.

  • Last Days: Zombie Apocalypse Rulebook Osprey

    Last Days Zombie Apocalypse

    Last Days: Zombie Apocalypse is a skirmish-scale miniatures game of survival horror. It pits players against each other in a nightmarish near-future where the dead have returned to life and are feasting on the living.

    Players build their own factions, representing desperate civilians, military personnel, or hardened survivors, and must explore, scavenge, and fight in order to survive another day. Rival gangs are only one of the dangers they face - mindless zombies wander the streets, driven by insatiable hunger and drawn by the sound of combat!

    A gang's ability to scavenge is as vital as their combat ability, and players must ensure that they have the resources to survive in this hostile world. Scenarios and campaigns allow you to develop your gang, gain experience and recruit new henchmen to build up your strength or replace the inevitable casualties of the zombie apocalypse.

  • Last Levy The Defence of Berlin

    The Volkssturm (literally, ‘People‘s Storm’) were militia recruited from amongst the old, unfit and young. Many were drawn from the ranks of the Hitler Youth or from amongst veterans of World War I. They were ill-equipped with a variety of weaponry including crudely made Volkssturm MP3008 submachine guns and Volkssturmgewehr rifle. Others carried weapons captured from other nations earlier in the war or guns dating back to the previous century. Most did not have a uniform, but wore civilian clothing with just a black armband emblazoned with Deutscher Volkssturm Wehrmacht to show their allegiance. Volkssturm battalions were theoretically formed only for the defence of their own military district, but many ended up being sent to the front line.

  • Late Roman Cataphracts

    Equites cataphractarii were the most heavily armoured type of cavalry in Late Roman field armies. Mounted on fully armoured horses and wielding an extremely long spear with both hands, cataphracts operated in close and controlled formations at relatively low speeds but were a potent strike force, taking on infantry and cavalry alike. Unfortunately, the all-encompassing armour, so effective against missile weapons, was heavy and uncomfortable for both rider and mount. Horses often suffered from heat exhaustion and once the unit’s formation was broken, cataphracts became vulnerable to lighter troops.

    There are nineteen cataphract regiments listed in the Notitia Dignitatum, four in the West (including one in London) and fifteen in the East of the Empire, and although one is an elite Schola unit (Byzantium) and a couple are Palatini, most are treated as part of the regular assembly of troops.

    Despite the lack of elite status, a tendency to be one-charge-wonders and a short period of potency in any one battle, the most important thing to remember about the Late Roman Cataphract is that they are cool and they look it too.

    Inside you will find parts to assemble 12 finely-detailed armoured cavalry with kontos. Parts from this box are compatible with most parts from all our other box sets so you can do many, many conversions.

  • Late Roman Cataphracts

    16 x Late Roman Horse Cataphract figures

    We use the term Cataphract to describe a heavily armoured cavalrymen, covered from head to foot in armour of mail, scales and plates, sitting on a fully armoured horse.

    Scale armour was often of metal scales such as iron or bronze but could also be made of horn, bone or hardened leather which could be in various colours such as red and green.

    The horses often had an elaborate head piece to protect its face and a mesh to defend the eyes. These could be of various metals or leather.

    The first regiments of Cataphractarii were introduced by the Emperor Trajan in the early 2nd Century.

    We see a marked increase in Regiments of Cataphratarii in the Roman army from the reign of the Emperor Constantius II during the early to middle 4th Century as they came more and more into conflict with the Sassanid Persian empire who employed large numbers of Cataphracts and Clibanarii.

    Cataphracts would go into combat at the trot rather than the charge, as they were so heavy, charging would tire the horse out quickly. This also helped keep the advancing line steady for maximum impact of the long Kontos (lance) They would joust and fence with the long Kontos and revert to sword or axe when the Kontos broke. The are records of kontos blades decapitating heads with a thrust or a swipe!

    Infantry feared the Cataphract charge and had to form dense defensive blocks to prevent them breaking through.

    These fabulous figures can be made with either Kontos upright or Kontos levelled and have numerous head variants. The horses are in trotting poses and covered in wonderfully crisp scale armour with various head options. The whole effect will give you a varied and dynamic regiment of Cataphracts to strike fear into the opponents.

    What you get in the set

    16 x Riders and horses
    8 x Different horse head options. Separate tails to add a little more movement to the models.
    13 x head options for the riders.
    16 x axes to hang from the right of the saddle and 16 x swords in scabbards.
    Draco standard bearer arm option.
    The rider bodies are depicted in various armour styles including mail, lamellar and scales. The arms and legs are covered in flexible, tubular metal rings.
    Each rider has two arm pose options. Either upright Kontos or Kontos at the level.

    12 superbly detailed and animated models shooting to the front, side and rear representing the agility of these skilled mounted skirmishers. They come equipped with a powerful composite bow, bow case, arrow quiver, sword and small round shield strapped to their upper left arm.

    The Romans steadily increased the use of mounted horse archers in the army as they came into conflict with more and more Stepp nomad peoples who excelled with the use of the bow, as well as having to face the arrow storms of Sassanid Persian Horse archers. Many of the Roman horse archer units were recruited from the very enemies they had to face.

    The Notia Dignitatum a late Roman document listing the units of the Western and Eastern halves of the Empire lists nine units of light horse archers. There was probably a considerable amount more units in the Eastern Half of the Empire but the information is not as complete for this part of the Empire, but makes sense since most horse archer enemies were in the east.

    These miniatures don’t have to be restricted to just use as Late Romans. They can be used as Early Byzantines representing the men that fought for Belisarius against the Sassanids and the reconquest of Italy from the Goths. And they can be used as Palmyran horse archers. Palmyra was a client state of Rome based in Syria. They acted as a buffer state against the Sassanid Empire and scored a notable victory over the Sassanids under their king Odenathus.

    The Late Roman army was a fearsome foe. Its use of mixed arms, infantry and cavalry gave it flexibility and strength.

  • Late Roman Legionaries (1): Lorica Hamata

    IN HOC SIGNO VINCES

    “In this sign, conquer”. The legions underwent significant expansion and changes through Diocletian and Constantine’s reforms but by the late 6th century would become almost unrecognizable. Still, the legionaries fought across the whole of the Roman world against Pict and Irish raiders in Britannia, Vandals in North Africa, Sassanid Persians in Mesopotamia, and the never-ending onslaught of migrating Germanic and Hunnic tribes. More often than not they fought in brutal civil wars to determine who would be Emperor.

    This hard plastic set allows you to build up to 24 legionaries with spatha, spear, and plumbata along with two types of standards and full command. This set provides three different helmet options: the Niedebieber, ridge, and Spangenhelm styles along with the fur “Panonnian” cap. There are two types of crest options and extra heads to create command. This set can also be used to create armored warriors for many Dark Age armies including Goths, Burgundians, Saxons, Franks, and the Romano-British among others.

    You will also be able to pair this box to provide up to six units-worth of command for our upcoming ARMY BUILDER set WAALR003! And look for more sets in the Decline and Fall range to come.

  • Late Saxons Anglo Danes

    The Late Saxon/Anglo Dane set contains 60 superbly detailed miniatures.

    The Saxons fielded mostly infantry armies. Cavalry are disputed but they were good horsemen and would sometimes ride to battle as well as walk. But this set represent the hardy Saxon Fyrd on foot. You have armoured and unarmoured figures in the set.

    The armoured figures representing more well off and equipped select Fyrd or Theigns. The Unarmoured represent the standard not so well off Fyrd but still equipped with a stout shield and assortment of helmets and spears, swords and Saxes. Hand axes have not been included in this set not because the Saxons did not use hand axes but because the Viking set has a plethora of spare hand axes. You can use a lot of these with the new Saxon set.

    The command frame has a monk and some armoured warriors that can be used as commanders, standard bearers and also when equipped with double handed Dane axes as Anglo Danish Huscarls.

  • Late War German Army leIG 18 Infantry Gun

    The German Light infantry support gun mark18 was a short-barrelled 75mm howitzer. It was used throughout the war in most theatres and gave good quality, much needed support to the hard-pressed Infantry. It could be towed by light tractor, or even pulled by hand into position where its low profile, small size and rapid fire made it a useful addition to the frontline strength.

    Warlord's model captures its stubby outline nicely and with its action-packed 3 man crew is an obvious addition to any force.

    Note: Models supplied unassembled and unpainted.

    Contains 3 metal crew and artillery piece
