Ghurka

Ghurka The Gurkha regiments of the Indian Army were some of the most famous (and feared) Commonwealth troops of the Second World War. Recruited from mountainous Nepal, and wielding the lethal Kukri knives, Gurkhas proved to be tough, determined, and incredibly deadly soldiers - particularly when combat devolved into close-quarters fighting. In the jungles of the Far East, they put their skills to good use, earning a reputation that has persisted to the present day.

In Bolt Action, rules for a Gurkha force can be found in the Indian Army section of Armies of the British Commonwealth. The Ayo Gorkhali! special rule (named for their battle-cry) allows you to create an entire army of Gurkhas, who (naturally) specialise in getting up close and personal with the enemy, and this starter army gives you everything you need to field a well-rounded force on the tabletop, themed around Gurkha forces fighting against Japanese troops in the Far East.

  • Ayo Gorkhali! - Gurkha Starter Army

    Send in the Gurkhas!

The Gurkha regiments of the Indian Army were some of the most famous (and feared) Commonwealth troops of the Second World War.

At the core of this starter army is the Rifle Platoon - with 42 plastic Gurkhas in the box, you've got everything you need to create a huge variety of infantry squads and weapons teams, allowing for enormous flexibility in how you assemble your force. Supporting the infantry are self-contained Artillery and Heavy Weapons Platoons, which pair plastic weapons with characterful Warlord Resin crew - a 6-pounder anti-tank gun provides anti-armour punch, while Medium Machine Gun and Mortar teams keep up the pressure on enemy infantry. Tanks aren't forgotten, either! Although this is a jungle-fighting force, the Indian Army made great use of M3 Medium and M5 Light tanks against the lighter Japanese armour they encountered - and both are included in the starter army!

This starter army is the perfect way to begin a Gurkha collection, as it can be assembled into a wide variety of fully playable armies right out of the box, and easily added to to suit your chosen playstyle.

  • Gurkha 6-pounder anti-tank gun

    Knock out that tank!

The QF 6-pounder was the standard British and Commonwealth anti-tank gun during the latter half of the War, and against the lighter Japanese tanks found in the Far East it remained a lethal weapon until the very end of the conflict. Indian Army units, including the fearsome Gurkhas, made good use of the 6-pounder to halt Japanese armoured assaults and shore up defensive positions.

In games of Bolt Action the 6-pounder can be included in Artillery Platoons and is a Medium Anti-tank gun, that can be towed by most vehicles.

This kit pairs the plastic British 6-pounder sprue with four characterful Warlord Resin crew, giving Indian Army forces some extra anti-armour punch.

  • Gurkha weapon teams

    Get the support weapons forward!

In the claustrophobic jungle conditions encountered in the Far East, lighter support weapons became hugely useful for patrolling and small-scale engagements. Gurkha forces made good use of all available equipment to magnify their firepower, and the relative portability of light support weapons made them omnipresent throughout the war.

This box gives you a trio of incredibly useful support weapon teams, perfect for filling out a Gurkha Rifle Platoon. The Boys anti-tank rifle lets your troops engage light armour from a distance, while the 2" light mortar team rains high explosives from on high, and the sniper team stalks through the jungle, hunting high value targets.
