  • Afrika Korps

Sent to bolster their beleaguered Italian allies facing the combined forces of the British Commonwealth in North Africa, the Deutsches Afrika Korps proved a dangerous opponent. Commanded by the legendary Erwin Rommel, the Afrika Korps fought a series of ferocious battles in Egypt and Libya as each side pushed the other to breaking point.

Fighting in what was referred to as the last 'Gentleman's War', the German soldier was well respected by those he faced, be they British, Australian, Indian or other nationalities. German tactics in the desert had a profound and deadly effect on how the British armour and infantry formations interacted with one another and these lessons were learnt for the later conflicts in North West Europe.

The Afrika Korps foot troops were more than ably supported by the dreaded '88' (8.8cm Flak) gun as a direct fire weapon and the ubiquitous Panzer IV was developed into what the British troops referred to as the 'Pz IV special' - a tank the British tank commanders learnt to fear and respect in equal measure. Battles at El Alamein, Tobruk and Gazala honed their fighting capability, pushing the British High Command into changes that would bring eventual victory in the desert campaign.

Supplied with a variety of headgear and weapon options Warlord Games' highly detailed and dynamically posed Afrika Korps are ideal for fighting in North Africa as well as into the Tunisian and the Italian campaigns.

    Afrika Korps set contains:

Enough plastic components to make 30 Deutsches Afrika Korps miniatures. Includes a host of options to allow for different weapon configurations and command models.
Equipment included: Kar 98K rifle, MP40 submachine gun, MG34 LMG, Pz 39 anti-tank rifle, 5cm light mortar and Luger pistol
    Plastic bases.
    Full-colour waterslide decal sheet.

  • Afrika Korps LeFH 18 10.5cm medium artillery

105mm calibre and larger howitzers were employed at the divisional level. These long-ranged, heavy-hitting, weapons could sometimes be overrun and in bolt action provide a fearsome objective to take on for both men and machines.

    This set contains:

    1 x DAK HQ
1 x DAK Machine Gun Team
    1 x DAK 8th Army Medium Mortar
    Afrika Korps HQ

German officers were capable and often experienced leaders. Junior officers were trained to undertake the role of their immediate superiors, enabling them to use their initiative to take control of situations when necessary. The Afrika Korps (DAK) proved this through consistent victories as well as elusiveness in retreat.

    Afrika Korps Medium Machine Gun

The Germans were equipped with two excellent machine guns in the MG34 and rapid-firing MG42 - known to Allied troops as 'Hitler's Buzz Saw' because of its distinctive noise, or 'Spandau'. Unlike other armies, the Germans used the same machine gun both as a squad weapon from its bipod and as a tripod-mounted support weapon. The tripod mounted provided a much more stable firing platform and made it easier to keep up a sustained fire using a belt feed.

    Afrika Korps Medium Mortar

The standard German medium mortar of the war was the 80mm Granatwerfer 34. It was a very effective and accurate weapon that could provide longer range, on-call fire support. It had a maximum range of 2,400 metres and could maintain a rate of fire of 15-20 rounds per minute. It was carried by its crew in three pieces: a base plate, tube and bipod.

  • Belgian Army Infantry Squad

A Belgian infantry section consists of ten men. A section is led by a sergeant carrying either a MP-28 submachine gun or a Fusil 1889 rifle. The sergeant is supported by a corporal carrying a rifle. The Fusil-mitrailleur 1930 (FM 30) Browning Light Machine Gun or "Belgian BAR" served as the section LMG, which was carried and operated by one man. The remaining seven riflemen carried the Fusil 1889 rifle, one of which is a dedicated rifle grenadier carrying a rifle adapted to shoot grenades.

  • Blitzkrieg German LMG Teams (1939-42)

The physical weapon used by the German army in the light machine gun and medium machine gun role was actually the same – most commonly the MG34 (augmented by captured foreign weapons) or later, the MG42. To utilise these weapons in the medium machine gun role and take full advantage of their sustained fire capabilities and accuracy, a sturdy Schweres Machinengewehr tripod was required. However, for many squads these tripods were too cumbersome and so machine guns were used with a simple bipod, operated by small teams. Machine guns could also be used in the anti-aircraft role with the addition of a simple tripod stand made of three poles, allowing the weapon to be elevated high enough. The example given here is as used by Infanteriepanzerabwehrkompanien – machine guns used to defend anti-tank gun platoons.

  • Bolt Action Soviet Veteran Squad in Snowsuits

Veterans are formed from the ferocity of war - these battle-hardened men are always ready to lay their lives for Mother Russia. Given the finest gear the land can offer, these veterans took the fight to the front to protect their homeland from the invaders.

If the Soviet army was not on the whole an elite fighting force, it certainly included its fair share of battle-hardened veterans. It was not uncommon for squads of hand-picked, decorated men to be assigned to particularly important objectives or critical areas where their greater experience would have the most impact.

These solid infantry will form a very themed backbone for your force. Being equiped either with a submachine gun or use their normal rifle, you can create multiple squads for all scenarios.

  • Bolt Action: North Korean SMG Squad

The forces of the KPA were vast, incorporating between 150,000 – 200,000 personnel, divided into 10 Infantry divisions, 1 Tank division, and 1 Air Force division. Although North Korean conscription was in effect before the outbreak of war, many young men were encouraged or pressed into service by their own families for the promise of financial reward.

At the outbreak of the Korea war in 1950, the KPA were better prepared in every way for the coming conflict. Not only were they better trained and more favourably equipped, but earlier guerilla warfare in South Korea had also left ROKA forces little time to re-establish a strong military presence. As such, the initial attacks on June 25, 1950, were highly effective.

The KPA foot soldier has long been celebrated for his ability to endure the worst the enemy, the harsh Korean climate, and the hardships his own superiors can throw at him. Modelled on the mechanized Soviet Army, sporting armaments supplied by Stalin and bolstered by veterans released from China, the KPA forces were considerably larger and more dangerous than the UN anticipated.

    KPA LMG Squad

The basic KPA infantry squad consisted of ten men led by a sergeant and a junior sergeant (equivalent to a Corporal). Each squad included a light machine gun and required a second man to act as a loader. Dedicated submachine gun armed companies were formed in the KPA at a regimental level. The primary purpose of the submachine gun company was to serve as the recon company for the infantry regiment. Each soldier is armed with the PPSh 41.

  • Bolt Action: Panzer Lehr Squad

The Panzer Lehr Division (armoured training division) was built in 1943 from the veterans of the North Africa, Sicily and Italy campaigns. These highly experienced troops formed the core of this training and demonstration unit and as such was considered an elite formation from its inception.

In 1944, the Panzer Lehr Division took part in the invasion of Hungary before moving to France to await the Allied invasion of Europe. Unlike other panzer divisions of the German wehrmacht, all the panzergrenadiers of the Panzer Lehr were mounted on half-tracks, making it the only fully mechanised unit in the German army. In addition, they were the first to fight alongside the new Tiger II tanks. They also wore a distinctive double-breasted assault gun-style jacket instead of the normal Heer field blouse.

Although caught unawares and ill-equipped by Hitler’s last gamble in the West – the Battle of the Bulge – embattled US troops won through whilst staving off the twin foes of the German offensive and the harsh winter conditions.

Clad in greatcoats, Mackinaw jackets and anything else to keep the bitter cold at bay, the soldiers of the US Army fought, and most often won, in the cold against their Italian and German adversaries.

US Army officers – mindful of enemy snipers picking them out – dressed and armed themselves much like the other ranks.

The reliable .30 Cal medium machine gun gave the GI squads devastating firepower whilst also being supported by accurate suppressive fire from 81mm medium mortars.

  • Bolt Action: USMC Support Group

Few fighting forces rival the hard-won reputation of the US Marine Corps. Showing their mettle during the island-hopping campaigns in the Pacific, and then to pushing the enemy back to their homeland, the US Marine had few equals in WWII. Facing the deadly combination of the fanatical Japanese enemy and the sweltering jungle conditions in which they fought, the US Marine Corps triumphed in actions which have become legendary – Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Peleliu, Iwo Jima and more.

Within the claustrophobic confines of the hills and jungle environment over which they fought, the marines were reliant more on support weapons than on tanks. Medium machine guns like the M1917 and the 81mm medium mortar were vital to their success.

  • Early War Waffen SS

As Hitler's military machine unleashed their devastating assault on Poland in 1939, the SS were still in the process of transitioning from political to military organisation, becoming the Waffen-SS (armed SS) and the military wing of the Nazi party.

This box set contains a 10-man (all metal) section:

    1 NCO with SMG
    2-man LMG team
    7 riflemen
Well-supplied and well-led the fanatical Waffen-SS were an increasingly formidable fighting force. These controversial but elite troops were dogged by accusations of atrocities, particularly in Poland and on the Eastern Front during Operation Barbarossa.

Dressed in their trademark camouflage smocks and helmet covers, and with squads often built around the firepower of the reliable Czech-made CZ-26 light machine gun, the Waffen-SS were at the forefront of the German Blitzkrieg offensive in the early stages of World War II.

  • French Army Infantry

The French army started World War II as the most powerful army in the world. Well-equipped, with excellent tanks and artillery, the infantry divisions were numerous and confident of fighting off the hated Boche as they had twenty-two years before. This was not the same war though, and the French infantrymen found themselves all too often fighting off German armoured units which had outmanoeuvred them as the Blitzkrieg rolled across Europe.

It was for the honour of France and their regiments that so many Frenchmen dug in and fought it out against a more tactically advanced foe. Resolutely fighting against the sweeping offensives of the German invaders, the French gave their all at battles such as Hannut, Arra, Boulogne and Saumur.

Many brave Frenchmen went on to fight against the Allies with Vichy France, ensuring admiration and loathing in equal measure, whilst others would return to France with the Allied invasion in 1944 to reclaim their homeland...

This incredibly versatile plastic boxed set allows you to assemble the miniatures as regular French Army infantry, fortress troops, chasseurs à pied, engineers or colonial troops (Algerian, Moroccan or Tunisian).

  • German Luftwaffe Field Division Squad

After the the initial spectacular success of the German invasion of Russia in 1941 the invasion slowed to a crawl as the weather and hard fighting ground down their formations. Desperate to shore up the front seven regiments were formed of non-flying personnel taken from the German air force, the Luftwaffe. These regiments were equipped with standard infantry weapons, and sent to quieter areas of the front to gain experience.

As the war continued more and more Luftwaffe personnel were drafted into what became Luftwaffe Field Divisions, 21 divisions being formed with 12,500 men in each at full strength. They wore the trademark Luftwaffe blue/grey uniforms and many also donned the long camouflaged M1942 jacket or zeltbahn tent capes.

Despite their poor levels of training, they fought bravely in Normandy, in Italy and on the Russian front. The average age of the soldier in these units was 30 years old - much older than other front line troops. These difficulties led them to take more casualties than the regular army units but despite these shortcomings Luftwaffe Field Division troops earned 18 of the coveted Knights Cross medals in the three years that they saw service.

This Warlord Games Bolt Action Game box contains a 10-man Luftwaffe Field Division Squad:

Available in this neat box set, the Hungarian Army Support Group - grab yourself the new Hungarian HQ, Medium Machine Gun and Medium Mortar!

    Hungarian Army HQ

Since 1872, the Ludovica Military Academy had been turning out competent and efficient officers and graduated the majority of officers for the Hungarian Army. A core of competent and educated officers struggled to handle the large expansion of the Hungarian Army to meet the needs of the Eastern Front. The Hungarians enjoyed a professional and experienced core of staff officers.

Hungarian Army Medium Machine Gun Team

The Schwarzlose 7/31M machine gun was used extensively in World War I and put to use right away in the new conflict.

    Hungarian Army Medium Mortar Team

Like virtually all nations, the Hungarians adopted a medium mortar based on the French Brandt 81.4mm. The 36/39M was common throughout the Hungarian Defence Force and employed modern shaped charges to good effect.

  • Merrills Marauders Squad

In 1943 the US high command raised a unit to rival the famous British Chindits, men who were to take the war to the Japanese behind their lines. They were officially called 5307 Composite Unit but, under their tough and charismatic leader – Brigadier General Frank Merrill – soon earned their famous name.

These hard-marching, tough volunteers raided Japanese supply lines and airfields, carrying their supplies by mule and by horse. 3,000 strong, the three battalions were equipped with a variety of semi- and fully-automatic weapons, as well as their trademark headgear. They were further toughened by intense training and marksmanship courses.

Their support weapons, man-portable by necessity, consisted of bazookas and 60mm mortars, and even occasionally Boys anti-tank rifles. They fought in numerous raids and earned a reputation for tenacity and jungle-fighting skills, helped on many occasions by native Kachin scouts who knew the terrain of the Burma theatre. Merrill,s Marauders were a tough unit and uniquely each man who served in the three battalions was awarded a Bronze Star medal. Their specialist skills will be of great use to US players in games of Bolt Action.

    Soviet Army (Winter) HQ

Like the soldiers they commanded, many Soviet officers were inexperienced and lacked training at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. Stalin's ruthless purge of officers of the Red Army in 1937 had denuded the organisation of leadership and left deep scars in the survivors' minds.

Throughout the war, showing initiative was seen as a dangerous trait, and most Soviet officers would follow their orders to the letter even if they meant marching their men to certain death. Soviet operational leadership improved immeasurably over time, but the heavy casualties endured by the Red Army indicates that overall battlefield control remained a blunt instrument.

Soviet Army (Winter) Medium Machine Gun

The red army used the venerable Maxim Model 1910 as its medium machine gun throughout the war, the very same weapon that had served the Tsarist army in world war 1. It was a capable weapon that could be tripod-, sledge- or wheel-mounted and was often given a useful shield to help preserve the crew.

The Maxim was so heavy and cumbersome, however, unlike most other Soviet weapons, the Germans seldom made use of captured examples.

Soviet Army (Winter) Medium Mortar Team

The standard Russian medium mortar of the war was the 82-PM-41 or 82mm battalion mortar Model 1941. This served alongside the otherwise similar 82mm Model 1937. Both were very effective and accurate weapons with a range of about 3,000 yards.

82mm mortars were regarded as artillery rather than infantry weapons by the Russians and were usually massed together in batteries for battalion-level support.

  • Soviet Naval Brigade Box Set

The Naval Infantry Brigades fought hard in most of the epic Soviet battles of WWII. Formed from tough sailors when the Russian army had been shattered by fast moving German forces, the Brigada Morskoi Pekhoty as they were known, were truly sailors armed with infantry weapons and ordered to the front or fighting in situ to defend their naval bases.

Clad in dark uniforms they soon earned the nick name "Black Death" or "Black Devils" from their foes.

They fought at Leningrad in one of the grimmest sieges in history and also were at Sevastopol in 1941when their base was overrun. They also fought in Finland, East Prussaia and launched raids against the Finns and Germans from Archangel.

Most famously they defended the grain elevator at Stalingrad for many days, losing appalling casualties but refusing to give in.

Warlord's Russian sailors are a tough bunch indeed.

  • Soviet Winter Infantry Plastic Box Set

When the German army crashed over the Russian border in 1941, Hitler was confident of a short, sharp campaign. He nearly got one, but heroic defence by the massive Soviet armies slowed the Nazi advance. It was done by the simple private soldier, "Ivan" as the Germans called him. Brave, solid, and loyal, these soldiers endured dreadful battle conditions. Their equipment was unsophisticated but functional, much like the troops themselves.

The bitter fighting in Finland had taught some hard lessons to the Red Army where thousands of their men fell victim to frostbite. The cold weather kit later issued was warm and comfortable, frequently padded or quilted, and was much envied by the German troops shivering in thin overcoats.

These tough men could lie out in the snow for hours before making their attacks. Urrah!

    Soviet Infantry (Winter) contains:

Enough plastic components to make 40 Soviet Union infantry miniatures, equipped to fight in the harsh winter of the Eastern Front. Includes a host of options to allow for different weapons and command models.

  • Winter Fallschirmjäger Pak 40

    Deploy powerful anti-tank firepower today!

The PaK 40 was Germany's primary anti-tank gun throughout most of the war, with over 20,000 being produced. Capable of reliably knocking out virtually every Allied tank it faced, it was a well-liked weapon, much feared by Allied tankers. Fallschirmjäger formations made good use of the gun, which proved particularly effective when fired from concealed ambush positions during the Battle of the Bulge.

A PaK 40 is a great addition to any Artillery Platoon in a Bolt Action Fallschirmjäger force. As a Heavy Anti-Tank Gun it's able to deal with any armour your opponent might bring, and its powerful HE shell can also blast infantry apart!

A Heavy AT Gun will need a tow - the PaK 40 is best paired with an Sd.Kfz 7 half-track or a good old-fashioned horse limber!

Get ready to hunt some tanks!
