The Goth Noble Cavalry formed the core of the Gothic armies that washed across Europe during the Dark Ages, serving as heavy cavalry that brought death and destruction to their enemies in support of the infantry, light scouts and horse archers. The average cavalryman would have been equipped with a mail shirt, an iron or steel helm and whatever weapon they could afford. Wealthier Goths may have opted to garb themselves in lamellar armour due to the additional protection it offered against the blunt force trauma inflicted by the maces and axes common in the period. These models can be used to represent a wide range of armoured cavalrymen from 300AD to 800AD, including the Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Vandals, Franks, Germans, Herules, Lombards and more. This product contains twelve plastic Goth Noble Cavalry. Supplied unpainted and unassembled. Includes Renedra plastic bases
Equites cataphractarii were the most heavily armoured type of cavalry in Late Roman field armies. Mounted on fully armoured horses and wielding an extremely long spear with both hands, cataphracts operated in close and controlled formations at relatively low speeds but were a potent strike force, taking on infantry and cavalry alike. Unfortunately, the all-encompassing armour, so effective against missile weapons, was heavy and uncomfortable for both rider and mount. Horses often suffered from heat exhaustion and once the unit’s formation was broken, cataphracts became vulnerable to lighter troops.
There are nineteen cataphract regiments listed in the Notitia Dignitatum, four in the West (including one in London) and fifteen in the East of the Empire, and although one is an elite Schola unit (Byzantium) and a couple are Palatini, most are treated as part of the regular assembly of troops.
Despite the lack of elite status, a tendency to be one-charge-wonders and a short period of potency in any one battle, the most important thing to remember about the Late Roman Cataphract is that they are cool and they look it too.

WarGameStore are pleased to present Gripping Beast's new Viking Hirdsmen plastic boxed set.
Bent solely on pillaging monasteries, enslaving the helpless and massacring all who stood in their way the Viking Raiders are truly a force to be feared.
They made surprise attacks on lonely places where they knew they would not have to fight a big English army. English kings were too busy fighting one another to join forces against the Vikings so there was no English navy to guard the coasts making it easy for Vikings to land on a beach or sail up a river. After a raid the ships sailed home laden with treasures and captives.
The Viking box set features 44 multi-pose hard-plastic figures.
Also included in the box is a sprue of plastic bases and four paper Viking banners.
