  • Humpback

This monstrosity appears to be a fusion of an ogre, a bull, and a camel. While it has the size and general form of an ogre, it also features a large hump on its back, which gives it a pronounced hunched appearance. Its head is a hideous combination of bull and camel features, while its legs end in wide, heavy hoofs. Humpbacks have never previously been seen in the armies of the Shadow Deep, and they appear to be some new kind of elite trooper. They wear armour composed of heavy plates, including a heavy helmet, etched with runes of dark power. Adding to their odd appearance, on their left arm they wear the end of a giant scorpion tail, with the heavy, poisonous stinger projecting like a spike and scorpion plates running up their arm so it can be used as a shield. In their other hand, they generally carry a heavy weapon such as a mace, hammer, or cleaver.

  • In Her Majesty's Name (Second Edition - Hardback)

"In these, the twilight years of the nineteenth century, I amazed at how high mankind has soared, and at how deep it has fallen, because of the myriad advances in our sciences and in engineering. Seldom does a day go by without a gentleman announcing his newest life-changing invention, each claiming it will benefit mankind in some way.
“It is a pity that we, the leaders of the civilised nations of the Earth, could not have put these marvels to better use. May God have mercy on us all."
Robert Delamere, Lord Conway and Prime Minister 1893-95.

It is 1895 and the world is in turmoil. In the decades to come historians will reflect upon the cause of this state of affairs and many will point at Charles Babbage. His perfection of his Difference Engine and then his Analytical Engine gave the new scientific establishments in the great imperial nations the tool they had so long needed in order to make a great leap forward. The ability to make huge and repeatable sets of complex calculations revolutionized the world.

Within twenty years we had the perfection of miniaturized steam engines, electric light and motors, Radium Bricks, Arc weapons, Hydrogen and latterly Helium Dirigibles, Road Trains, Calculating Artillery Engines, Sea and Land Dreadnoughts and, well, the list is almost endless. Nothing is impossible when the wealth of a great nation is coupled to the unlimited imagination of educated men of science and their engineers.
The one thing that all these marvellous advances has not brought is peace. Every Great Power has been jostling its neighbours for resources and more importantly, the latest technology. None can afford to stand still and allow its neighbours to advance their science and engineering unmolested. If they do they risk being overwhelmed as the French were in 1861 by the Prussians with the first Mobile Calculating Artillery Engines, or the Northern Americans in the year after that, as their ports were put to the flame and successfully blockaded by the South's Armoured Sea Dreadnoughts.
Some nations have also been tapping into spiritual and psychic powers as well, in order to produce an unholy combination of the mystical and the mechanical, such as the ghastly Prussian Tod-truppen.
Although there have been relatively few open conflicts between the Great Powers, there is a state of undeclared and secret war between them all. This is where the Adventuring Companies come in. These are the deniable clandestine agents of the Great Powers (and of other globe-spanning organizations). They act in the shadows pitting their skills, their wits and the newest technologies against each other to obtain the latest scientific formula, artefact or other vital component.

Small groups of highly skilled and specialized operatives are brought together for each mission under the command of a trusted 'Captain'. In Great Britain they work directly for Her Majesty’s Government or out of the Explorer's Club in London’s Pall Mall. In Prussia their patron is the highly secretive Thule Society, and in the USA they are mostly sponsored by the Secret Service. There are similar organizations in each of the Great Powers. They all have the choice of their nation's latest arms, armour and other equipment with which to perform their missions.
The game of In Her Majesty’s Name pits these small Adventuring Companies against each other in skirmish battles which may be single encounters or part of longer narrative campaigns. The rules are quick to learn but have sufficient depth to give a satisfying evening’s entertainment.

  • Land of the Free: Wargames Rules for North America 1754-1815

This set of wargaming rules, published by Osprey, allows players to start with small warbands of 10-20 miniatures of any scale and develop their forces over time, building them up into armies of hundreds of models! No matter the size of a player's collection, these rules will provide an enjoyable game.

England and France set upon the New World with a fury, building settlements whenever they could hack a clearing out of the wilderness. Expansion brought them into contact with the natives, with whom they established trade and commerce. The New World was vast but not nearly big enough for the ambitions of these powers and conflict was inevitable. In Europe they call it the Seven Years' War, but in the New World the French and Indian War was fought for dominance over this new land.

Nine long years of bloodshed saw England triumphant, but the war had placed great burdens upon colonist and King alike. Tariffs were created to pay for the war but the newly formed colonies quickly realized they were being treated unfairly. "No taxation without representation" became the rallying cry and a cultural revolution ignited into full rebellion. The American Revolution birthed a new nation that faced trials from the very beginning, not least a new conflict against England - the War of 1812. After nearly three years of warfare, the young nation stood strong and started down the road to becoming a new world power.

Each player will build their forces using a unique system of command points. Throughout the game these command points will be used to perform actions, resolve morale tests, and reduce the enemy's will to fight. Resource management is determining what command points will be used for which elements and which actions. Risk management is evaluating whether you should extend your command point resources at the danger or exhausting your army and making them susceptible to counter-attack. Victory is determined by who holds the field of battle and which objectives were achieved.

    Hardcover: 148 pages

He worked for Games Workshop as a promotions and marketing manager for over six years and spent five years managing events for Battlefront Miniatures. His experiences in both the science fiction and fantasy and historical markets have given him a broad understanding of tabletop wargaming and its mechanics. • Last Days: Zombie Apocalypse Rulebook Osprey

    Last Days Zombie Apocalypse

Last Days: Zombie Apocalypse is a skirmish-scale miniatures game of survival horror. It pits players against each other in a nightmarish near-future where the dead have returned to life and are feasting on the living.

Players build their own factions, representing desperate civilians, military personnel, or hardened survivors, and must explore, scavenge, and fight in order to survive another day. Rival gangs are only one of the dangers they face - mindless zombies wander the streets, driven by insatiable hunger and drawn by the sound of combat!

A gang's ability to scavenge is as vital as their combat ability, and players must ensure that they have the resources to survive in this hostile world. Scenarios and campaigns allow you to develop your gang, gain experience and recruit new henchmen to build up your strength or replace the inevitable casualties of the zombie apocalypse.

  • Lion Rampant - The Crusader States

This expansion for Lion Rampant: Medieval Wargaming Rules explores the Middle East during the heyday of the Crusades, between 1097 and 1291. The Crusader States were a unique meeting point for people and military forces from all over Europe and the Middle East, but also from as far afield as Asia and East Africa. These groups not only fought against but often also alongside each other.

This expansion includes historical information, new upgrades (from Greek fire to holy and magical characters and items), and twelve army lists with unique features and special abilities. It also comprises scenarios that re-enact stories from Western, Byzantine, Armenian and Muslim medieval sources, which have been selected to represent highlights in the story of the Crusader States and their neighbours.

Become a crusader lord, the commander of a Templar patrol or a group of leper knights, or an Italian pirate/merchant prince! Or perhaps you’d rather be the chief of a band of Assassins, a charismatic preacher, the boss of a band of marauders, a Muslim emir, an African mercenary captain, the lady of a castle defending her people, a Mongol commander, or a Byzantine or Armenian officer! This expansion brings them all to life.

  • Lion Rampant - Viking in the Sun

BP1788 - Lion Rampant: A Viking In The Sun
The Mediterranean Adventures of Harald Hardrada

This expansion for Lion Rampant: Medieval Wargaming Rules explores the Mediterranean world before the crusades through the adventures of the exiled Viking prince Harald Hardrada (“hard ruler”). Harald is best known for his invasion of England in 1066 as king of Norway, and for his death at the Battle of Stamford Bridge, which was a prelude to the Norman conquest of England. However, between 1033 and 1042 Harald spent his formative years as a commander in the famous Varangian Guard of Byzantium, taking part in campaigns in Upper Mesopotamia, Palestine, the Aegean Sea, Southern Italy, and the Balkans.

In this supplement you will find historical information, new upgrades (from new tactics, such as Feigned Retreat, to terrain upgrades, among others), and three mini-campaigns based on extracts from Norse sagas and Mediterranean chronicles. The first campaign is a fight against a bandit boss in the Holy Land during an armed pilgrimage to rebuild the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem; the second takes place during a Byzantine attempt to retake Sicily from its Muslim rulers; and the third one tackles the early stages of the Norman conquest of Southern Italy.

At the same time, there is no requirement to use Harald and the Varangians. This supplement includes five army lists (Varangians, Muslim Powers, Byzantines, Normans, Lombard and Byzantine Italian principalities), and alternative leaders for each of the campaigns with suggested skills based on their back stories.

The campaigns are also easily adaptable to other medieval contexts and to other rules sets.

  • Men of Bronze

Men of Bronze is a wargame that allows you to play out Classical Greek hoplite battles on the tabletop. Players are Strategoi (generals) leading phalanxes of bronze-clad warriors in pursuit of fame, glory, and the honor of their city-states. To win such prizes, however, you must prove your mettle, display your valor, and bring the other Strategoi to their knees! Designed to recreate small battles or larger skirmishes with 50-80 figures per side, each army will have its own unique mix of rules, advantages, backgrounds, and abilities. Strategoi must understand and appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of their forces in order to win glory on the battlefield. Of course, there's no telling what tricks a rival Strategos might have up their tunic sleeves…

  • Never Mind The Billhooks (Deluxe Edition)

Billhooks is a fast-action game of late medieval European warfare, set at the small battle/big skirmish level - think Nibley Green rather than Towton.

You will need around 100 figures a side, lots of D6, and a 6 x 4 foot table - everything else you need to play the game is included in this book. A typical game can be played through in around 90 minutes (or rather less if the Dice Goddess wills it!).

Billhooks Deluxe gives you a ‘Core’ Wars of the Roses ruleset and then expands that to cover six new Theatres and Conflicts from across Western European Christendom c1350-1525. So you will find troop stats and special rules for Irish Gallowglass, Hussite War-Wagons, and Landsknecht Pikemen along with all the other troop types to be found on battlefields of the period, from 100 Years’ War France to Renaissance Italy.

The game uses a card-driven turn sequence and many tried and tested combat mechanisms to produce battles that are full of period flavour but always unpredictable.

Play one game of Billhooks and you’ll want to play another!

The following are the Theatres and Conflicts you can find in this book:

Albion - The Wars of the Roses

Gallia - The Hundred Years’ War

    Bohemia - The Hussite Wars

    Italia - The Italian Wars

Northumbria - The Anglo-Scottish Border Reivers Lusitania - Late Medieval Portugal

  • Ogre Thug

Ogres are large, primitive humanoids. While not inherently evil, they have a tendency towards violence and cruelty which makes them extremely susceptible to the corrupting influence of the Shadow Deep. Although dim by human standards, they are capable of complex thoughts, can formulate and follow plans, and even work within an organization. All of this makes them ideal shock troops in the armies of evil.

  • Outremer (The Barons' War Supplement)

Outremer (French: outre-mer, lit. 'overseas'), also known as The Crusader States, is a political hotbed granting ambitious Frankish Barons the opportunity to make a reputation for themselves. This new battleground dominated by a scorching sun, inhospitable terrain and lethal new foes provides fresh challenges for any Commander.

Choose to create a retinue from the Armies of Outremer - settled franks, crusaders or the military orders. Alternatively, select from the myriad of warriors that comprise the cultured Forces of Islam, led by a sultan or emir of a particular Askar.

New rules, named characters and a linked scenario-driven campaign, Peril on the Pilgrim Road, encourage you to recreate warfare in the crusader states using the award-winning The Barons' War rules.

This A5 softback rulebook contains 140 pages (with original wraparound cover art by Peter Dennis) which include the background to Outremer, rules (of course) & retinue lists. A copy of The Barons’ War rulebook is also needed.
