A native of Augsburg, Fritz Biermeyer joined the SS in 1933. His reputation for pressing the attack at all costs continued when he took on a Soviet tank battalion with just his Panzerkompanie supported by an armoured pioneer company and two assault guns; by the end of the day his actions had destroyed eleven M4 Shermans, one KV-85 heavy tank and one T-34 medium tank. In addition, they also destroyed three anti-tank guns, two mortars and sixteen machine-guns! Biermeyer met his demise near Modlin on 10 November 1944. He was posthumously awarded the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves.

The SdKfz 124 Wespe (German for wasp) was a German self-propelled artillery vehicle based on the Panzer II tank. The Wespe first saw combat in 1943 on the Eastern Front, and proved so successful that Hitler ordered all Panzer II production to be reserved for the Wespe alone, dropping other projects such as the Marder II. They were allocated to the armoured artillery battalions of Panzer divisions along with the heavier Hummel self-propelled guns.

The Gurkhas of Nepal have a superb reputation as first-class fighting men. They are recruited from hardy hill tribes in the Himalayan mountains. Their ferociousness when using their heavy-bladed Khukuri knives in close combat is legendary. So too is their determination not to abandon their weapon while still alive.
The Gurkhas’ first charge at Cassino led them across Snakeshead Ridge and through the Germans’ first line of defence to just below the Cassino monastery hill. They were stopped by the tough German paratroopers in The Thicket, which was heavily booby-trapped with anti personnel mines. Slowly the Ghurkas made their way around the hill to the south and secured Hangman’s Hill.
Finding themselves cut-off and surrounded they dug in. The Gurkhas held against repeated counterattacks from the Fallschirmjäger above before finally fighting their way back to the Indian lines.

The US divisions organised under the light division structure, such as the 82nd Airborne, had one reconnaissance squadron with one light cavalry troop mounted in wheeled vehicles. These had initially been jeeps, but by 1985 had been replaced by the new High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), ‘Humvee’ or ‘Hummer’ as it quickly became known to the troops.
These guns were so light that they were carried on the back of the 15 cwt trucks rather than towed behind them. These equipped the brigade anti-tank company of three anti-tank platoons. An anti-tank platoon would be attached to each battalion, and assigned to the sector most vulnerable to tanks and most in need of anti-armour support.

Armed with the 40mm 41M gun which fired the same ammunition as the 40mm 37M Bofors Anti-aircraft gun and two 8mm 34/40M machine-guns, the first prototype of the Turán I was completed in August 1941 and went into production in October that same year.
Delivering to the troops begun in the beginning of 1942 and they were used to equip the 1. and 2. Armored divisions and the 1. Cavalry division in 1942-43. However, the Turán I was hopelessly outclasses by the Soviet T-34 and it was concluded that a minimum main armament of at least 75mm in caliber was needed.
Such a version of the Turán was on the drawing board as early as 1941 and was originally intended as a support vehicle to the Turán I. Armed with the short-barreled 75mm 41M gun, the new design become known as the Turán II.
The Turán I and II continued to see heavy fighting during 1944 despite their inferiority to Soviet armour of the time. Regardless of this fact, the chassis of the Turán was used in the design of the Zrínyi II Assault gun and was the basis of a design intended to mount the 75mm gun of the German Panther.
After their experience against the Soviets on the Eastern Front, the Hungarian military leaders requested a self-propelled assault gun to aid in their efforts against the hordes of Soviet armour. Based on the hull of the Tur¡n tank, the Zranyi II mounted a 105mm 43M howitzer after the proposed 75mm gun proved to the be inadequate. It was planned to equip all of the Hungarian Assault Gun Batteries with the Zranyi II, however productions numbers never reached the desired levels and this meant the German made StuG III G and Hetzer help to make up the numbers.
This Flames of War blister pack contains 1 Hungarian 43M Zranyi II self-propelled assault gun.
