The SU-57 Assault Gun was the combination of the US M3 half-track and the M1 57mm gun. The Soviet Union received six hundred and fifty of these lend-lease vehicles from the USA. It was popular due to familiarity with the same gun from their Valentine tanks and four SU Brigades were equipped with the SU-57: the 14th, 16th, 19th and 22nd. These were given SU 57 vehicles in February 1944 and all saw action in the Ukraine, starting in mid-1944. They also took part in the liberation of Romania in August 1944.
