The 152mm M1943 (D-1) Howitzer was developed as a hybrid using the carriage of the 122mm M1938 (M-30) howitzer and a barrel of the 152mm M1938 (M-10) howitzer. This adaptation significantly increased the firepower and breakthrough abilities of Red Army shock units just in time for Operation Bagration. Over 2,800 guns were produced from 1943-1949 and it saw extensive service in the Soviet army.
