The 45mm anti-tank gun M1937 (53-K) was a light, quick-firing anti-tank gun used in the early War. Due to inadequate armour penetration it was replaced by the more powerful 45mm anti-tank gun M1942 (M-42), which used the same carriage. The gun received a longer barrel, shells with a more powerful cartridge and a thicker gun shield (7 mm instead of 4.5 mm).
