The SdKfz 250 Leichte Schutzenpanzerwagen was a light armoured half-track, very similar in appearance to the larger Hanomag-designed SdKfz 251, built by the Demag firm from 1941 onwards. The SdKfz 250 had four road wheels and a cargo capacity of one ton, and it was used in a wide variety of roles throughout the war. The basic troop carrier version, the SdKfz 250/1, was used as an armoured personnel carrier for reconnaissance units, carrying scout sections. This basic variant usually mounted one or two MG34 machine-guns. Later variants carried 2cm (SdKfz 250/9), 3.7cm (SdKfz 250/10) and even 7.5cm (SdKfz 250/8) guns to support the more lightly-armed versions.
