In a particularly ingenious idea to quickly protect their anti-aircraft assets while still providing direct support for their infantry, the Germans placed 2cm Quad anti-aircraft guns on the roofs, attics, or the top floors of buildings. This tactic allowed the guns to fire at Soviet aircraft as well as providing direct firepower against assaulting infantry, and by sand bagging and fortifying the house, the Flak Nest was protected against all but heavy calibre high explosives.
