Not satisfied with the rate of fire of the single barrelled 2cm FlaK 38, the quadruple barrel version of the 2cm Flakvierling 38 boasted an impressive rate of fire of 1,800 rounds per minute, although under combat conditions this was reduced to 800 rounds per minute. Target tracking was accomplished by the means of traversing and elevating the guns via two hand wheels and the guns themselves were fired by two foot pedals, each firing the pair of guns diagonally opposite. These could be fired in pairs or simultaneously, in either semi-automatic or fully automatic modes. The gun proved versatile and was effective against both ground targets and low-flying aircraft.
